DISCOVERY SURFERS CHALLENGE
THE RUN
This event is both tough and scenic. Starting at the mouth of the Kwelera River at Yellow Sands the race takes you over beach and road, and crosses two rivers. Here you are tested on soft beach sand, loose boulders, rocks and gullies. The first crossing takes place about five kilometres into the race at the Gonubie River. Once over this obstacle the race goes onto the tar road and through the village near the 11-kilometre marker. Then it is back onto soft beach sand to cross the second river at Nahoon and a canter to the finish.
The race is normally run in hot conditions and frequent drinking is vital. There are no watering tables for the first six kilometres so it is advisable to carry a water bottle for this stretch. The spectator support is excellent, especially on the road running sections through Gonubie Village. This is also where the most spectators are situated.
FACILITES
Participants are encouraged to use the bus service to the start and buses depart Nutting Hall between 12h00 and 12h30.

EDITORS NOTES
EDITORS NOTES
A separate walking race starts at 14h40. Because of the river crossings this race needs to be run according to the tides. Rescue staff are on duty with rubber ducks and ropes strung across the rivers in case of strong currents. There is a cut off time at 17h30, at the halfway mark. This is for the safety of the competitors. Who says that adventure racing is the ‘new thing’? The Surfers’ was started in 1975 with a field of 26 intrepid souls.
Time Limit: 03:30
