THE RUN
Twenty-one beautiful kilometres of the Western flank of the Cape Peninsula of Cape Town sets a dramatic stage for the Milkwood Half Marathon. It is run from the rustic and rugged Soetwater Resort behind Kommetjie. By most standards it is an easy, undulating route. It also has to be one of the most scenic in South Africa. The route first goes past the Kommetjie Lighthouse, the Kom, the beach and back towards Slangkop. There is some climbing as you run over Elainekop and out on the coastal road to Misty Cliffs, on to Scarborough and back to Misty Cliffs. The last quarter of the race is along the sea, turning down to the Crayfish Factory. The finish is fast and flat.
PRIZES AND GIVE-AWAYS
Environmental awareness is high in this sensitive and biodiverse park and Harfield Harriers go all out to ensure its preservation. Innovative finishers ‘medals’ come in the form of young indigenous shrubs and runners are encouraged to plant them every year.
