THE RUN
This is a ‘must run’ race. From the start at Fish Hoek the route goes to Kommetjie and up the first hill at Slangkop. The climb is worth it for the top of this hill treats you to a most spectacular view of the sea and Kommetjie village. From here, wind down to Soetwater, Misty Cliffs and Scarborough.
Keep an eye open for the crayfish factory. The route splits at the tranquil picnic resort of Perdekloof. Those competing in the 36 kilometre event turn off here and go straight up Red Hill. For the marathoners there is a loop towards the Cape Point Nature Reserve and back before tackling the notorious ‘Hill’. From the other side of Red Hill there are panoramic views of historic Simon's Town and False Bay ahead of you. The final stretch to the finish is an easy, relaxed run winding through Glencairn, Sunnycove and finally Fish Hoek.

EDITORS NOTES
EDITORS NOTES
The Red Hill Marathon has been consistently ranked in a number of our surveys as a well organised and well presented event. The first Red Hill Classic was run almost half a century ago as a training run for the Peninsula Marathon. No one could find a suitable short cut and instead of a customary twenty miler, the distance was set at 36 kilometres. In 2008 a massive veld fire swept over the route, resulting in road closures. Since then the race medal and club logo were redesigned to include three flames to commemorate the experience.
