This is an extremely hard route that features a run over Northcliff Hill. It is tough going up and jarring coming down. The race is characterised by three epic hills. The first, between the first- and third-kilometre mark, is a foretaste of things to come, but is also the easiest. The second is perhaps the hardest hill, and is found between the ninth and 10th kilometre marker board. This is a hill to walk with dignity and pride! The third and final hill, named ‘Kakhuis Twee’, comes just before the summit, between the 13th and 14th kilometre marker boards.
Give yourself a pat on the back for it takes a lot of hard work to get to this point. The run from here needs to be taken with care; the steep descents will prove hard on an untrained body. This is not the race for a PB. If you are looking for a great training run to get you into shape for Comrades, this is the one.
