LEGENDS TOWNSHIP MARATHON, HALF & 10 KM
THE RUN
Billed as a township race, the route is relatively flat and easy. It is scenic and holds some historic interest. From the start in Cuming Road, Eldorado Park, there is a gradual climb for 2.3 kilometres up to the Golden Highway. The route then winds its way back into Eldorado Park with another gradual climb for two kilometres into Kliptown. Just after the 10 kilometre marker the race passes Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, where the Freedom Charter was signed by the ANC in 1955.
The marathon and half events finally split at Klipspruit West. As a marathon runner you then run along Klipspruit Valley towards Lenasia. The halfway mark is situated in Rose Avenue, Lenasia. The route then crosses Klipspruit Valley at about the 28-kilometre mark and heads on past Them'elihle informal settlement and into Lenasia Ext 10. The following 10 kilometres, some taken on the Golden Highway, will prove testing. Gather your strength for before the 38-kilometre marker you will need to tackle ‘Heartbreakers' Hill’. Short; yes, but difficult.
FACILITES

EDITORS NOTES
EDITORS NOTES
The Township Marathon is one of the few marathons that takes you through a variety of interesting township residential areas. The philosophy behind the race is to take running to the people and to create awareness and tolerance between blacks and whites. This marathon is successfully organised by no fewer than three running clubs from various disadvantaged communities. It has shown tremendous growth because of its excellent organisation. Walkers are welcome to enter the 10 kilometre race only.
