XTERRA Cradle Moon Adds Family-Friendly Trail Run to Triathlon Event
Embark on a thrilling athletic journey in Johannesburg’s Historic Cradle of Humankind
Prepare for an unparalleled adventure as XTERRA South Africa arrives for the first time at the iconic Cradle Moon, nestled within the historic Cradle of Humankind. Taking place on 13 October 2024, XTERRA Cradle Moon is excited to announce the addition of a trail run to the event. Whether you’re an elite athlete or a family looking for a fun day out, Cradle Moon offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, challenging terrain, and a welcoming community spirit, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all participants.
Running parallel to the full triathlon, the trail run opens up the event to the whole family, making it accessible not just for elite athletes but for everyone who enjoys outdoor adventures. There are two trail events to choose from – a 5km and a 10km – both designed to provide a fun and social atmosphere while still allowing participants to challenge themselves.
Lace up for adventure
Multiple XTERRA World Champion, Conrad Stoltz, AKA the ‘Caveman’, comments: “The trail run offers two distance options, a 5km and a 10km. The 5km course is perfect for those seeking a non-technical, family-friendly run, and is designed for an enjoyable outing without the need to break a sweat.” Participants can expect fast-flowing tracks with stunning views of the Cradle of Humankind and the opportunity to spot wildlife such as giraffes and zebras.
“The 10km course is a bit more challenging, yet still accessible, and features fast-flowing tracks early on, showcasing the best views of the Cradle of Humankind. The route is designed to get your blood pumping and immerse you in the natural beauty of the area.”
Entry fees for the trail events are R250 for the 5km and R350 for the 10km, respectively. Included in the fees, each participant will receive a finisher medal, nutrition and hydration on the route, XTERRA Sox at registration, and access to clean amenities and safe, secure parking.
More than just a race – cue the fun!
“After your run, join us in the XTERRA Cradle Moon Race Village for a fun social gathering. Grab your morning coffee fix from Seattle Coffee, compare your Strava segments over a cold beer or gin in the Beer Garden, jump in the pool to cool off your jelly legs, or cure any stiff muscles with a massage at the EPT Sports Therapy zone. Sample gourmet burgers, explore the activation stores of our sporting partners, or learn more about the UNESCO World Heritage site with stories about the Boer War, rare plants and flowers, and the hidden treasures unearthed at the active fossil sites. The event promises a day of adrenaline-fueled fun for the entire family,” says Stoltz.
Join in for an unforgettable experience
“Cradle Moon offers an unparalleled backdrop for XTERRA South Africa and we’re excited to welcome both athletes and supporters to experience a day filled with adventure, camaraderie, and the beauty of our country,” Stoltz concludes.
