THE RUN

FACILITES

Buses depart from Bredasdorp Sports Ground for the start from 04h00, the last bus leaves at 05h00.

To describe this race as tough, undulating and spectacular is an understatement. The marathon starts on the Elim road almost 10 kilometre outside Bredasdorp. You climb the notorious Soetmuisberg, 470 metres over eight kilometres to the water station at the FM Tower. If the gradient does not take your breath away the panoramic sweep of the Agulhas Plain will.

The half marathon starts on Grashoek Farm at the back of the Anysberg and within four kilometres you are presented with the same climb up the Soetmuisberg. To be sure, the half marathon ranks as one of the toughest in South Africa, but then this is “the toughest race with the warmest heart”.

Voet van Afrika Marathon, Half,10 km & 27 km Trail (2024)	03 July 2024	New Route Change Due to rain storms and flooding our usual 21.1km has unfortunately been rendered unsafe and impractical for the half marathon athletes. Ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants is our top priority, after careful consideration the Voet van Afrika NPC have decided to take an alternative route. We are excited to announce that we will be using a route that has a special place in the history of the Voet. 20 Years ago, was the last time that the half marathon started in Napier. We believe that this route will not only bring back fond memories for some but also create new, cherished experiences for all athletes. The route will take you for 4km on gravel road at the outskirts of Napier with fresh country air and fynbos. Joining the 42.2km athletes for the last stretch from Napier on tar road to Bredasdorp Sport Grounds where the warm hospitality of the Bredasdorp community is awaiting every athlete. This route also offers ample opportunity for support and waterpoints along the route. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility in adapting to this change. Your dedication and enthusiasm are what make this event truly special and we are committed to providing you with an exceptional road running experience. EDITORS NOTES

The Voet van Afrika Marathon has been consistently ranked in a number of our surveys as a well-organised and well-presented event. The half marathon starts at 07h30 on Grashoek Farm at the back of the Anysberg and has a 4:00 cut-off. The local publicity association holds a festival over this weekend at the Bredasdorp Sports Complex with stalls, a beer tent, music and entertainment.

There is a four kilometre fun run, ‘Toontjie’, on the Friday evening before the main event. It starts at 18h00 and finishes at the Bredasdorp Sports Ground next to the registration venue.
