This race was started by Pinelands Athletic Club in memory of Pinelands runner and UCT graduate Chris McKinnon. Chris was killed by a motor car in Pretoria while training as a member of the WP marathon team taking part in the SA Games in Pretoria. There have been so many runners that have passed on that it seems fitting that we find some space in a packed holiday schedule to remember our fellow athletes, those no longer at our shoulder, no longer at the start.

The organisers have special permission to treat this race as a ‘fun run’ and therefore there are no cash prizes for the winners. The first man and the first woman each get a token prize.
