This route is challenging, but the quiet tree-lined suburban roads also make for a great family event. The half marathon route is a single lap, which is often an attraction for many runners. The race starts off as easy as you please along Silver Pine Avenue, crossing Republic Road and turning left into Fontainebleau. Enjoy the fast downhill start, for the real story of this classic is about to unfold. Put your shoulder into the hill as you approach Randpark at the two-kilometre mark. While there may be a few stretches that give some respite, the following four kilometres or so are unyielding.
The 10-kilometre route splits from the half marathon in Eland Road and makes its way back to the finish venue. For the half marathon runners, the split at the nine-kilometre mark heralds the second of three stern hills, as you grind on for three kilometres up Maria Street and beyond. A short downhill respite along Kangnussie Road and Bantam Drive takes you past the 14-kilometre mark and to the base of the third hill in Willowvale Road. Once that is crested, the final third of the route is quite an easy affair through the suburbs of Blairgowrie, Robin Acres, Moret and Ruiterhof, providing you with just reward for a run well done.
FACILITES
