The longer 27 kilometre route is relatively easy, heading out on the R301 towards Franschhoek with an out-and-back dog-leg near the Wemmershoek Dam in its early stages. Turning right onto the R45, the river heralds the nine-kilometre mark where you take a right turn onto a smooth gravel road that goes through farmland and forestry areas. Here you curve back to the R301 near the start and turns left to join the 10 kilometre route.

From this point you run in the direction of Paarl for about 2.5 kilometres before turning left onto the Schuurmansfontein Road. In the final stages you are treated to about four kilometres of smooth gravel and a section through the prison precinct before finishing on the rugby field next to the watchful statue of Madiba.
