Allan Ferguson, from Johannesburg Harriers Athletics Club completed 59 races and won the Grand Masters section in 1990 in a time of 45:02. Allan’s best time is 40:56 (1985). When a friend from Germiston Callies got married on race day one year, the organisers cancelled the event. In 2009 the race officially changed its name to the ‘Allan Ferguson Round Naval Hill’ in memory of Allan’s great competitive spirit and the legacy he leaves. This is one of the oldest races both in the Free State and South Africa. The race celebrates its 69th anniversary in 2018. Coca-Cola has sponsored the race since its inception.
